A lot of people outside of technology ask me what a VAR is.
One of my friends, who happens to be in finance, told me that a VAR to him means ‘value at risk’.
It could mean that too. VAR probably means a lot of different things to a lot of people.
Our definition: VARs are technology partners (Value Added Resellers) that resell all types of technology, has a vast knowledge-base, and provides managed/professional services around the technologies they support.
We know VARs first hand.
I was a Cisco Account Manager for almost half a decade targeting mid-market companies in Ct and worked with dozens of VARs. Co-founder, Mark Lawton, runs a Telecom VAR.
They are a lifeline to many businesses, especially the ones with smaller IT staffs. In fact, they service every size company in every vertical, public, private, Public Sector, etc.
There are also niche VARs – i.e. Software VARs specific to a technology like (Salesforce, google, AWS), Hardware (Cisco, HP, Dell), Software (BMC, CA) and Telecom (Verizon, ATT, Level 3).
There are a lot of factors that come into play when choosing a VAR – geography, expertise, and technology, to name a few.
A good VAR that meets your needs are tough to fine.
RateMyVAR makes this difficult process of finding the right VAR, reliable and easy.
